Currency

US dollars are accepted throughout the island of Jamaica. You can choose to purchase Jamaican dollars, but the exchange rates will vary. Most commercial establishments, including grocery and liquor stores, accept credit cards. Staff and driver gratuities, however, must be paid in cash.

Electronics

Electricity is 110 volts, 50 cycles (US is 110 volts 60 cycles). Converters are not necessary for US appliances. T Mobile and Cingular cell phone services generally work in Jamaica. Sea Island offers the use of a complimentary digital cell phone. World Talk calling cards can also be used.

 

 

Weather

The weather in Jamaica is generally in the 80’s by day, and in the 70’s at night. The temperature varies about 10 degrees from winter to summer. The Caribbean trade winds make Jamaica comfortable year round.
